The story takes place at the turn of the century and tells the story of a Polish poet living in Krakow who decides to marry a peasant girl. The wedding was attended by a group of people from all walks of life in Polish society who danced and got drunk, lamenting Poland's 100 year long division under the rule of Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The groom, a painter friend, and a journalist face the ghosts of Poland's past in turn. Finally, people issued armed calls, but the result was a scam.
